Kaitiakitanga

Kaitiakitanga - Kaitiaki is a New Zealand Māori term used for the concept of guardianship, for the sky, the sea, and the land. A kaitiaki is a guardian, and the process and practices of protecting and looking after the environment are referred to as kaitiakitanga. For us here at Wildfinder Pencarrow, this is a constant work in progress - please read through the below to learn more, and please let us know if you think there’s more we can do!

Reducing

Free drinking water onsite and in our tour vans, encouraging people to use less plastic.

Recycling

Recycling depot set up, with public access, encouraging people to keep our local beaches tidy and to recycle rather than throw out any rubbish they find.

Reusing

Salvaged parts system for our bike workshop, where we try to minimise wastage of useful parts and components. We also use these for clients’ repair jobs where appropriate, to try and keep older bikes working smoothly and out of landfill at a reasonable price.

Similarly, we sell our ex-hire bikes off at reasonable rates and in great working condition (often below the cost of restoration).

Cleanup

Staff are actively involved in organising regular beach clean ups, that we provide free bikes and recycling services to support.
